DJ 7 - Let Me Show Ya

DJ7 (Sha Yeap) representative of all female collective DJs , S.O.S (Sound Of Sirens). Previously, she started spinning out deep house tunes because of the soul influences and jazz elements. Now, she has switched back to her first love, Hip Hop. After much experimenting that there’s possibility for jazz infusion in hip hop beats. Her inspiration? Nujabes, Kero One, Common, People Under The Stairs and much more. DJ7 got serious in DJ-ing almost a year ago after realizing that girls can rock the scene behind the decks. While still in the process of learning the ropes, her ideal playing style is influenced by J.Rocc, DJ A.M, DJ Jazzy Jeff and their creative set that combines with turntablism. Her real hero? DJ QBert, someone with a high note of musical intelligence.

More of S.O.S: Under the guidance of Singapore's own DJ heroines, Debbie Chia, Cherry Chan and Natalie Pixiedub, S.O.S (short for "Sound of Sirens") was conceived by a bevy of quirky young ladies, eager to unleash their bags of eclectic tunes on the general public. Each lady an inspired graduate of the Miso Flamingo Bootcamp '08 & '09 with diverse tastes in music, but all united in their female national service in S.O.S. Listen out for the sound of sirens amidst the riffraff broadcast on the airwaves today...it's the NS girls (and their quality tunes) to the rescue!

Yi Siong - Holiday Mix - Christmas Morning

Yi Siong was first exposed to the unique sound of trance through the Internet, which led him to explore other electronic dance music genres such as techno, house, drum and bass, progressive, minimal & electro. He has since been inseparable with these various styles, from spending copious amount of time as a listener to eventually getting his own DJ equipment and picking up the art of mixing.

Having attended workshops and courses conducted by local DJ collectives in his early days, he is a DJ who continuously strives to refine his mixing techniques. Besides emerging 2nd Runner-up in the NECDC Music Mix 2005 (Student Category), he was also part of the Electronic Music Production team @ Republic Polytechnic which provided him with good opportunities to play out at institutional events as well as various clubs such as DXO, Home Club, and BBBC.

BIGGEST Party of the year 2010

ZoukOut has hosted over 150 international and local acts, almost a quarter of a million partygoers and over 350 hours of non-stop music and entertainment over the span of 10 years. That's not a mean feat, considering that, a decade ago, almost every logical punter disclaimed Zouk's vision of taking its "one dance, one music, one tribe" spirit to the great outdoors.
Today, even the officials talk it up. "ZoukOut adds tremendous vibrancy to Singapore's nightlife, and is a pillar of Singapore's position as an events and entertainment capital," says Tony Lai, assistant chief executive, Sector Planning & Development Group and Industry Development Group at Singapore Tourism Board. "ZoukOut remains unrivalled in its stellar lineup of DJs and music offerings, and its ability to draw in throngs of revelers from dusk to dawn."

Come Dec 11, which is tonight!!! Siloso Beach will again turn into a magical arena of top quality electronic music featuring spectacular lights and pyrotechnics, and above all, a source for lasting memories. The enticement of the three different arenas will make any discerning partygoer drool with a stellar line up of 11 international DJs, 13 local jocks and two local bands dishing an array of dance music from house to trance and hip hop to disco for 12 hours of non-stop musical merriment. Given the assortment of acts, we sort out the top 10 reasons why you shouldn't miss ZoukOut (no matter how inebriated you are!).

1. Tiësto
Who: The Dutch trance DJ needs no introduction. As a matter of a fact, other DJs' credentials are given added weight just by adding his name on their bio.
Why: His debut appearance on our shores feels like it was planned for ZoukOut's 10th anniversary. Who knows? Who cares? He's here! And as part of his fourth studio album tour, the Kaleidoscope World Tour 2010 which was launched across 150 countries, expect some euphoric tunes when he hits the deck.

2. David Guetta
Who: This workaholic French house DJ has risen from a relative unknown 20 years ago to an internationally recognized figure of electronic dance music after having sold over three million albums and 15 million singles worldwide.
Why: The man's number 2 (just a rank down from to the man mentioned above) on DJ Mag's Top 100 Poll 2010. Enough said.

3.Laidback Luke
Who: The innovator, industry's favorite remixer and the face of future sounds are some of the titles attached to this Philippine born-Netherland raised house DJ/Producer.
Why: For 14 years, Luke van Scheppingen aka Laidback Luke has been pushing the boundaries of electronic dance music with a string of top-notch remixes for A-list DJs like Moby, Calvin Harris, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Martin Solveig and even Depeche Mode and Cyndi Lauper.

4. Booka Shade
Who: The German duo of Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier make up Booka Shade, the pioneers of Frankfurt's synth-junkies electronic wave. Though they now dabble more in a clubby sound, be sure to expect some grimy, atmospheric and moody beats as they go along.
Why: Because the boys make us shake all over with their deliriously cool house choons.

5. Midnight Juggernauts
Who: Australians Andrew Szekeres, Vincent Vendetta and Daniel Stricker have taken electronic music and given it a such a blatant twist that the industry have given up trying to define their sound. But there's nothing shabby at all about Midnight Juggernaut's tunes. With their weapons of sound manipulation through synths, samplers and stereos; the boys have racked up big name fans from Pete Tong to Calvin Harris.
Why: Using samplers, pads and a host of other gadgetry and musical instruments, the trio will be teasing your aural canals with some sweet beeps and bleeps.

6. Seth Troxler
Who: The American born-Berlin based house DJ/Producer is a name constantly mentioned by the likes of Matthew Dear, Lee Curtiss, Theo Parrish and Terrence Parker-all house music luminaries in their own right-as the most likely to take the genre to the next level.
Why: A shame that he had to cancel his gig at Zouk earlier this year but Troxler is confirmed this time round and, together with his influences which include the chirping of crickets, the whirring of spaceships and the sweet sound of whistling voodoo magic, this makes everything worthwhile.

7. Lindstrøm
Who: Born Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, the Norwegian has been hard at work over the past seven years developing his original take on dance music through his inspiration from country gospel choirs and a quiet dinner with the family. And as such he's not been brainwashed by the current trends and "wants" of dance music. While relaxing at home on his farm in Oslo, he enjoys a cult following for his raw and intimate electronic tunes.
Why: He makes his own music-the man plays the bass, guitars, drums, keyboards and percussions on the layers of his tracks, so expect some depth and an intrinsic quality in his set.

8. SIXX
Who: The nine-piece hip hop band has been rising in stature with their hard work and rocking urban sound. With the vocal prowess of Aarika and raspy lyrical waxing from the recognizable Kevin Lester, Sixx have made notable appearances at TAB, Zouk, Victoria Theater and 98.7FM.
Why: Because they were cut short at Singfest and deserve a wider audience.

9. Kiat (Syndicate)
Who: The premium purveyor of drum ‘n' bass and dub in Singapore, Kiat is considered the genre's local kingpin when it comes to delivering the best sounds and quality left-field audio-video events through his collective Syndicate.
Why: Expect some melodic and grubby dub tunes and a visual spectacle of extraordinary proportions.

10. Dennis Ferrer
Who: This house music icon's body of works have been played by the world's DJ elite. Responsible for one of last year's biggest house tunes, "Hey Hey" and "Son of Raw", Ferrer has been synonymous with sounds that are innovative, fresh and borderline risky.
Why: If you are a fan of his remixes of Fish Go Deep "Cure and the Cause," Martin Solveig "Jealousy," and Blaze featuring Barbara Tucker "Most Precious Love," you will definitely want to check out his set. We hope its the sunrise one.

Aldrin - November 2010 Lush Mix

Aldrin's Bi-monthly mix for local radio LUSH99.5FM. This November's mix once again goes down the Nu Disco Electro Pop Indie Dance route, mixing things up with Charlotte Gainsbourg's Frech Pop, Mr Oizo's cinematic sounds, the fabulous Two Door Cinema Club, right through to the tech-house grooves of Lopazz and the massive electronic outfit Orbital!
Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of Asia's biggest DJ export to date, Aldrin has been championing his genre-bending sounds through his signature ONE nights at Zouk in Singapore, and guest spots all over the globe, including Pacha, Space & DC10 in Ibiza, Turnmills, The Cross and Ministry Of Sound in London, Cielo in New York, Womb in Tokyo, and Home in Sydney. In the studio, his releases have received support from big guns like John Digweed, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, to name a few. His remix of "Love In New Wave" by Singapore rock band Electrico received massive airplay by Pete Tong on his BBC Radio One show.

ONE WITH MUSIC - Aldrin's very own digital imprint, is where he continues to showcase his musical output. The label is also a platform for the many talents in and around Asia! 8 releases on and the label has already seen support from the likes of Hernan, Laurent Garnier, Trentemoller, Stacey Pullen, DJ Chus, Peter Gelderblom and more! This, coupled with his Essential Mix set making him the only South East Asian to be on Pete's show, plus Danny Tenaglia And Marco Bailey both singling him out in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll as a DJ to watch, Aldrin is clearly an international DJ/producer that Asia can call their very own.

ONE~DERLAND : ONE WITH ALDRIN 2009 SERIES OF PARTIES AT ZOUK - where it's all about the music and clubbers coming together to create a ONE-derland-esque vibe!

DJ Hotcheeks - Azzura Sunset Mix

DJ Hotcheeks (Huiting Koh):
Hotcheeks got hooked on DJ-ing almost a year ago when, on a lark, she decided to join the Miso Flamingo DJ Bootcamp. Fresh out of grad school (read: 2 years of partying and drinking), Hotcheeks discovered she got excited whenever she was able to introduce new music to her friends. House music is her first love but she is also very much into soul, '80s and hip hop. She also has a soft spot for anything with the Saxophone. Most recently, Hotcheeks has begun the arduous but exciting search for house/'80s/soul mashups. Stay tuned for more!

More on Sound of Sirens (S.O.S.):

Panasonic confirms the end of Technics turntables

Following weeks of rumours and speculation, Panasonic has confirmed that their Technics brand of turntables has been discontinued.

The Osaka-based technology company sent out the following statement yesterday:
Panasonic has confirmed that it ceased the production of its Technics-branded analogue turntables this autumn.

After more than 35 years as a leading manufacturer of analogue turntables, Panasonic has regretfully taken the decision to leave this market. However, Panasonic will continue to sell headphones under the Technics brand.

We are sure that retailers and consumers will understand that our product range has to reflect the accelerating transformation of the entire audio market from analogue to digital.

In addition, the number of component suppliers serving the analogue market has dwindled in recent years and we brought forward the decision to leave the market rather than risk being unable to fulfill future orders because of a lack of parts.

Panasonic employees who have been working on the analogue turntable range have been redeployed elsewhere within Panasonic – many of them continuing to work in Panasonic’s Audio Video Business Unit.

Resident Advisor recently spoke with JC Faxas, the main DJ Buyer for Guitar Center Inc, the biggest distributor of Technics products in the United States. Based on meetings with Technics' vice president, he confirmed much of Panasonic's statement, especially that a shortage of essential parts was the key factor in their decision. "Panasonic had been using some of the same parts manufacturers for over 40 years and most had gone out of business, so it would be very difficult and expensive to get some of those parts in production once again."

But after working directly with Technics for over a decade, Faxas also thinks the brand could have survived if Panasonic valued it more highly. "In my opinion, if Technics was a stand-alone company and not part of Panasonic, then there would be sufficient business for the company to continue. I feel that Technics has always been pocket change to Panasonic, whose upper management never took the DJ business seriously. The question now is whether a manufacturer will step up with a suitable alternative since there will never be a true replacement."

DJ Enferno - Evolution

If DJ Enferno was only known as the guy Madonna picked to cut up samples and assist in remix productions for her shows, helping to make the Sticky & Sweet Tour the highest-grossing tour of the year, he could look comfortably back on an illustrious and successful career. But for Enferno, a veteran club DJ, turntablist, production guru and creator of the much-lauded Live Remix Project (more on that later), the tour is simply the natural progression to a consistently bourgeoning career.

In 1999, Enferno would enter his first DMC competition, the most prestigious in the world. While he didn’t win the first year, he would spend countless hours working on his routines, scoring higher with each passing year, until finally winning the U.S. Championship in 2003.

Enferno hung up his battle needles in 2004, and continued to increase his exposure in the club world, touring all over the USA, Asia, and parts of Europe, even making a feature appearance on MTV’s Direct Effect in 2004. By 2006, Enferno was on top of the club world with his multi-genre open-format style on the decks.

Thus spawned the Live Remix Project (LRP) in 2006, a “one-man symphony” incorporating turntables, instruments, effects and samplers that combines musical virtuosity with technical proficiency. LRP draws on a myriad of Enferno’s skills (Check out liveremixproject.com for a sample.)

Today, DJ Enferno is showing no signs of resting on his laurels. In 2009, Enferno has already successfully combined his club mixing with his Live Remix techniques in a hybrid “DJ vs. Musician vs. Producer” performance suitable for both clubs and live stages. On the production end, Enferno is building on his tour experience, hitting the studio hard. Look out for more remix releases by Enferno into 2010.

Pioneer blings out HDJ-1000 headphones - Limited Edition

The thing with headphones, and sound equipment in general, is that if you get the design right the first time, you don't leave yourself much room for significant upgrades down the line. Pioneer seems to have fallen into that trap with its HDJ-1000 set of cans, which are today getting rehashed in a pair of new shades: the extrovert gold number above and an understated all-black look. Pioneer hasn't left the innards completely unretouched, however, as it has nipped and tucked a few bits to allow better low-range reproduction and a more comfortable fit overall.

“Much like our players and mixers, Pioneer headphones are designed for both style and performance. We have a versatile line-up of headphones that are sure to complement many DJ levels. The new HDJ-1000s will not only catch your eye, but also please your ears,” said David Arevalo, senior marketing manager, Professional Sound and Visual Division for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.

Many DJs are as critical of the look of their gear as they are with its audio performance. The HDJ-1000 headphones provide the high-quality sound that DJs expect as well as choices of colors and styles that make a fashion statement. The HDJ-1000 headphones come in two new colors, black and gold, in addition to the original chrome model. The black version resonates with a more sophisticated look, while the gold version provides a more glitzy style.

To obtain the best audio reproduction possible, the drivers in the HDJ-1000 headphones were tuned to deliver more impact in the lower bass frequencies of music. Its thick 38 micrometers diaphragm and 1.5 mm voice coil are more efficient in generating the critical midrange and mid-bass frequencies in music and produce a more linear response even at high volume levels.

Furthermore, the mono/stereo selector circuit was modified to obtain clearer playback, especially in the midrange frequencies. With this change, the headphones deliver sounds such as bass drums, snare drums and cymbals with more impact.

For maximum comfort, the headphones use low rebound urethane for the ear pads providing a better fit and increased comfort when used for long DJ sessions. Along with the urethane pads, the design of the headphones wrap around the ears to achieve excellent sound insulation, making monitoring effortless even in the noisiest environments.

Both the HDJ-1000 limited edition sets will be available in December for $209.

Technical Specs:
• Frequency: 5Hz – 30kHz
• Impedance:36Ω
• Maximum input power:3,500 mW
• Output sound level:107 dB/m
• Unit type: 50 mm diameter dome type
• Plug: 3.5 mm diameter 3P mini plus
• Weight:9.52 oz. (excluding cord)

Clash The Disko Kids - Wonders Of The Deep Mix

Clash The Disko Kids (CTDK) is a Singapore electro-techno-house duo consisting of DJ Kurt and Weili. Together as Clash The Disko Kids, they have been formidable on the dance floors as Singapore’s most popular electronic group. With over 15 years turntable experience between them, and a blatant disregard for music genres, they are known for incorporating a strong rock influence into their sets and image.

A CTDK set is like one big lesson in the history of electronic music in one night! You can only expect a mural of sounds when CTDK go behind the decks. Out of nowhere, the duo seemed to have emerged out of the concrete jungle and reinvented the clubbing landscape in Singapore, putting their own sick twists towards music such as adding samples, accapellas and sound fx to their DJ sets and just about everything around it to put smiles on the clubbers’ faces and hands in the air. The result is something really quite exciting and definitely very refreshing! Clash The Disko Kids have played many gigs in clubs like Home, Butter Factory, Phuture (Zouk, Singapore), Loft (Zouk, Malaysia), and Prost (Jakarta, Indonesia).

In addition to their DJ gigs, they also hold their own regular night series called “You Say Party! We Say Rave!” where they have invited other acts to perform with them. Previous acts include Twilight Action Girl (KL), Dubwise (SG), Shawn Livewire (SG) and DJ Inquisitive (SG). They have also played alongside popular DJs such as Jay J (USA), Max Graham (USA), Brewster B (Australia), Soul of Man (UK), Dub Pistols (UK), Steve Aoki (USA), Simian Mobile Disco (UK), Boys Noize (GER), Arrow!! (UK), Kele (Bloc Party, UK), Al-Doyle (Hot Chip, UK), Lovefoxx (CSS, BRA), L.A Riots (Fool’s Gold, USA), AC Slater (Trouble & Bass, USA), Le Castle Vania (USA), Dex Pistols (JPN), Mykal (TW), LapSap (KL), Steve Slingeneyer (Soulwax, BEL), Mumdance (Mad Decent, UK), Beens (Ger), Geht’s Noch (BEL), Drop The Lime (Trouble & Bass, USA) and Juan Maclean (DFA Records, USA).

Spikey Tee - Frontal iFM Promo Mixes

Spikey Tee is a soul fuelled, reggae educated, hip hop asserted and jungle/dnb ridden man, Spikey (the person) takes all this influence from his music in to his life. All of which (obviously amongst other things) bind together to make a truly great man and all of which becomes blissfully obvious when Spikey (the artist) steps on stage be it with New Zealand band Sola Rosa or with a simply inspiring dj set…

In a world where artists survive 20 seconds, it is a direct link to his talent that this year marks Spikey Tee (the artist) 22nd year as an active participant in the culture of music. It isn't a business for him, it’s life and that’s why he’s still around today with every one of his musical journeys making a statement and permanent attachment to the listeners soul…

Spikey makes me want to sing. Every time I hear a lyric I almost subconsciously start singing it. After a day of listening, the night is spent singing. Now I’m not talking mumbling, I’m talking belting out a tune (obviously not subjecting others to said inspiration) and trying to embody what it is that Spikey (both the person and the artist) is getting at. See, Spikey (the artist) sings about the truth. He tells real stories. His story. And that he can somehow translate to everyone’s story. This is a great gift and we are all lucky to have an opportunity to share in it.

History is all well and good but as an artist you’re only as good as your last performance which for Spikey (the artist) is being touring vocalist for the amazingly talented Sola Rosa, unleashing his angelic voice in the studio and DJ’ing across many lands, absolutely laying down the law from reggae to drum n bass and all his influences in between. What is commonly known as ‘mash up’ sets these days Spikey's execution of is and will continue to be legendary – new names for an old game when it comes to dealing with Spikey. Impromptu guest vocalist with Morcheeba at the Days Like This Festival in Sydney (after many years of being a firmly lauded member), a record that we’re both quite proud of for Conscious Rebel Music (I’m continually humbled to work with such a truly, talented, gracious and absolute joker of a human) and finally after many years of making everyone else’s albums sound amazing, he’s working on one to call his own.
Very apt for the 22nd year in his musical life…

I’ve purposely left out what he’s done in this blurb but we’ll drop the list on you if you scroll down. Go through it and you will realise that Spikey has been in your life longer than you realise (he’s been with me since ’92 – and I met him about 7 or so years ago).

This is an enormous year for us the listener as we take this journey around the world with Spikey the DJ, the singer and the artist so grab on for the ride because people like Spikey do not come round very often. Spikey Tee (the person) is an amazing character. Put that on a stage and Spikey Tee (the artist) will simply take that and give you a performance that will make you feel larger and more positive than anything you could ever imagine…

More about Holla Techno:
****************************
Jeeee... Hmmmm... Alright. I might be the next 'dubfire'! LOL! Maybe not. Lately I've been playing around techno from dark to acid to proggy. Seems to be lovely. There's this thing that kept me doing Techno sets. To me, Techno sets are much like a novel or a story book. It has story lines. It brings you to places even to bed. OK. I'm crazy. Anyway. Holla Techno is a 'book' for all to share.

It has episodes. Right now I'm at Episode 1. So, wait up for the coming episodes. You peeps can subscribe to my podcast http://harddix.podomatic.com for updates on my mixes in your iTunes or so ever. Till then... - HardDix -

FICKLE GORILLA LAUNCH PARTY

For those who will be in Singapore this coming weekend, here's an event not to be missed.

First in a series of pop-up bars and after-hours parties. In collaboration with Knight Runners, FICKLE GORILLA brings the very best in electronic music to the real party people of Singapore. A scene usually unseen.

The Little India launch Party will see the old brick walls of the Post Museum crumble and shake under the explosive beats of DARKWING (AU) & RTYPE.

Combining house, breaks, funk, disco and dubstep, the curious ying-yang symmetry of these two artists will be flicking all your switches and have you smashing up the dance floor as they tag-team their tunes throughout the night.

For this special launch event - DARKWING will be teaming up with drummer & brother-in-alms HORATIUS for a first taste of DARKWING LIVE – An assault of the funkiest, creamiest, rocking dance music floor stompers, set to electronic percussive wizardry.

Adding to the chaos are Niko dishing out wicked hip hop tunes and Submerge & Presha of Meshradio notoriety bring their breed of drum & bass and dubstep to our little music feast. What a beats night it will be.

A last minute addition to our merry band of noise makers is Paul (not the octopus) but the TAROT reader! Fortune hunters and creators of the future can catch him in his mystical corner at post-museum. End your fickle future at fickle gorilla!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Capacity will be very limited so you will need to be early for this one,
and its bound to get even more squeezy when we throw in the sweetener:

FREE FLOW CHAMPAGNE AND VODKA 10PM – 12AM

This is the first of many, so come get rowdy with the fickle gorilla. There's plenty more where that came from.

Reason 5 & Record 1.5 - Live Sampling

Propellerhead Software has released the updated Record 1.5 and Reason 5, which add new instruments, effects, sequencing, sounds, patches and more.

Her’s a quick guide to what’s new and what it will cost you.

Propellerhead Reason 5 & Record 1.5 Highlights:
The new Kong Drum Designer and Dr. Octo Rex loop player extend Reason’s instrument arsenal to help musicians get phenomenal sounding rhythms, drums tracks and beats.

Reason 5 and Record 1.5 add a whole new take on sequencing: Blocks—build songs parts like patterns and string them together for lightening fast arranging with the ability to freely go back and forth between pattern and linear modes.

Neptune, a pitch correction tool and amazing voice synthesizer, turns less than perfect performances into great ones in no time. Simply play new harmonies on a MIDI keyboard for instant backing vocals. Live sampling into all sample capable devices means any musician can use samples in a new and playful manner, discovering the lost art of creative sampling. The Expanded Factory Sound Bank, doubling in size, plus added signature sound designers’ patches, inspire new arrangements and compositions. Multi core optimization, an on-screen keyboard and tempo scaling of clips top the list of additional improvements.

Live Sampling – Reason 5 and Record 1.5

This is an interesting concept; software samplers that actually record and sample audio. Live sampling is a new feature that places a Live Sampling button on every location where a .WAV or .AIF file can be loaded in on each of the sample playback devices (i.e. Redrum, NN-19, NN-XT, Kong, etc.) Live sampling will allow for two main functions:

1. To sample external audio through your audio interface in realtime (i.e. mic input)
2. To resample any piece, part or section of your tune

When live sampling is engaged, a waveform editor that has now been built into the program appears, and allows you to trim, crop, normalize, reverse, crossfade-loop the sample, thus making this whole process self-contained inside the program.

Kong Drum Designer – Reason 5 and Record 1.5

Kong is a multifunctional drum design unit that allows for 16 different drum parts for each of the 16 different pads on its GUI. Sounds can be edited and shaped all-day. Kong also posses an arsenal of Support generators and FX processors geared towards shaping your drum sounds. Support generators will add additional body and tone to your drum sounds.

Drum generation methods are:
1. NN-Nano – Sample playback – multisampling/layering
2. Nurse REX – REX Loop playback – plays back as individual slices, or chunks
3. Analog Bass Drum Synth – think 808, 909, etc. analog kicks
4. Analog Snare Drum Synth – think 808, 909, etc. analog kicks
5. Analog Hi-Hat Drum Synth
6. Analog Tom Drum Synth – think 808, 909, etc. analog kicks
7. Physical Modelled Bass Drum
8. Physical Modelled Snare Drum
9. Physical Modelled Tom Drum

The Support generators are:
1. Noise
2. Tone

Kong’s internal structure allows for 2 Insert FX for each part; 1 Send Effect and 1 Master Effect. Kong also allows for flexible output routing (16 outs.)The FX are:
1. Compressor
2. Filter
3. Overdrive/Resonator
4. Parametric EQ
5. Rattler
6. Ring Modulator
7. Room Reverb
8. Tape Echo
9. Transient Shaper

Propellerhead – Reason 5 and Record 1.5 – Neptune

Neptune is a pitch device for audio in Record 1.5. It’s also an FX processor that you would add to an audio track as an insert effect. Overall, Neptune has three key functions:

1. Real-time Audio Transposer – This is pretty cut and dry; you have controls for the semitone shift and fine tune.

2. Real-time Pitch Correction – This function is a very welcome addition, as it detects notes in monophonic audio signals and/or tracks (e.g. vocals) that are off and corrects their pitch. It looks as though it will also allow for incoming MIDI notes to pull the pitches away from their root and correct it in a sliding and gliding real-time fashion. Hmm… feels like I’ve seen something like this before in a certain plug-in.

3. Voice Synth – This functionality allows for incoming MIDI chords to make duplicates of the audio to create what sounds like harmonies and backing parts. I was a big fan of a piece of hardware that did this years ago

Traktor Kontrol S4 hardware interface

Native Instruments today announced its new (and first) integrated hardware / software DJ system with a YouTube video wherein DMC World Champ DJ Shiftee rocked out to the Tetris theme and samples from Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (We guess someone knows their target demographic.) Traktor Kontrol S4 promises to take "functionality and control" to the next level with a new version of Traktor Pro that supports the hardware interface's many features, including: looping, cueing, effects, and track browsing controls, two sample decks, touch-sensitive jog wheels, a mixer, and more. Also included is a low-latency 24bit / 96kHz sound card. Available sometime this winter for an MSRP will be $999 (€899). See it in action after the break.

Hands-on with the Pacemaker DJ system

Engadget had a chance to get up close and personal with Swedish startup Tonium's portable DJ unit and paw this 120GB-storing mobile mixing and more device. Comparable in size to the PSP (a smidge smaller), the Pacemaker's integrated crossfader and multifunction touchpad at first blush provide a surprisingly intuitive way to control your mix. We're not gonna lie -- we kinda wish the touchpad worked more like a Kaoss pad than like ye olde iPod scroll wheel, but all the same it's pretty fun to get some pitch bending on with a device that fits in one hand. Also let's be honest, you're probably not gonna become the hottest thing in Ibiza with this thing, but at $700 it's a relatively low-cost convenient practice setup for DJs on the road or an attractive option for aspiring amateurs. Be sure to peep yourself some video after the break.

Zul Subvert - Subvert Sessions

Oh man... this mix just can't get off my head. Loop mode was on for this mix particularly. Expect a wide spectrum of sound packing into an hour. I wish it could have been longer, oh well, I believe it will only takes a maestro in order to produce such a good sh*t.

-- Profile --
I guess I've been lucky enough to be around music since 1991 (the punk/hardcore days) but DJ-wise, I got started around 1995/1996 was lucky enough to be drafted for a gig by Chris Ho even before I could mix. Needless to say I was completely rubbish, even if i played only ambient (mainly Global Communication and Vangelis)!

I listen to a lot of music so I can inspired from everything from Jeff Mills, LTJ Bukem (the reason I fell in love with drum & bass actually) to Depeche Mode.

To be honest I knock up tracks just for fun so really Im the last person to be giving advice! :p Ive only been fooling with Ableton in the last six months (after much prodding by Brown Club chief Aresha) but I love programmes like Ableton etc have made making music interesting even for technophobes like myself. I guess the biggest tip is to not be daunted by the technology. Have fun, do that and half the battle is won in my humble opinion.

Best outcome - not sure how I can answer that! But really, taking it easy and having fun usually helps :p

Peace and respect to the Boss and the Simpang / Tampines Teh O Ais Limau crew (they know who they are!)

Token multitouch screen shows us the future of DJing, today (video)

Think you know multitouch surfaces? Think again. We've just come across a video demo of the Token multitouch, erm, pedestal, which seems to have come straight from the future. A clear sheet of glass that beams out video from your computer and accepts touch inputs in return, the Token concept has been designed by a chap named Rodrigo hailing out of Chile. We know it uses a rear projector for its video, but other construction details are scarce at this point; what's really special here, however, is the way he combines it with a Traktor Pro controller titled Emulator, turning a few intelligent finger swipes into a kickass light-and-sound show. See it on video after the break.

Multitouch DJ table lets you swipe to rock

We just recently got a glimpse of one possible future of DJing, but our world has now already been turned upside down once again with this multitouch-enabled rig built by Gregory Kaufman. The big difference with this one, as you can probably guess, is that it employs a gesture-based interface that lets you spin the virtual turntables and use a variety of taps and finger swipes to replicate the main functions of a regular DJ deck. What's more, Kaufman says that the only gear a DJ would have to carry is a USB drive with their own music and settings, which they'd simply plug into the multitouch table at a club -- assuming the idea catches on, that is. Top top things off, the system would also be able to accommodate regular DJ gear for some added flexibility, and even provide enough room for two DJs if you're looking to battle or share the stage. Head on past the break to check it out in action.
